Students in English Lit will continue to work on study packet for test on Friday.

The healthcare class will begin to do studies on African Americans that have contributed to the field of healthcare.  Mrs. Wright will begin by introducing some of these individuals on a daily basis.


The students in World history will begin studying African Americans who have contributed to technology.

Students in English Lit will be given a study packet to prepare for a test on "the Cop and the Anthem" on Friday.

The World History class will begin presentations on the contributions of the computer and the effect that they have had on world transformation.

The English Lit class will begin working on contrast and comparison chart for "the Cop and the Anthem."  They will compare the book to the video as they describe characters and plot.


The students in Healthcare class will present their reports on (cannabis) the marijuana plant being used for medical treatment and the negatives of using the drug.


The World History class will continue to work on the class technology on the invention of the computer and how its use has revolutionized the world.

G. Wright - February 2

The English Lit class will watch video on "The Cop and the Anthem" by O'Henry.  Upon completion of the video students will do a contrast and comparsion chart on characters and plot of story.  Mrs. Wright will give a demonstration on how to set up the chart.  Mrs. Wright and Ms. Plato will each have (2) groups a piece to work with.  The students will design the chart as Mrs. Wright and Ms. Plato facilitate.

The students in healthcare class have completed their research on the benefits of medical marijuana (cannabis) which is used in a drug to treat diseases and the negatives of just using marijuana.  The students will type their reports and present.  Presentations will begin on Tuesday.  As students present, Mrs. Wright will check for understanding.


The World History class is working on a project involving the inventions of computers.  Mrs. Wright has assigned groups the inventors of the computer and the person that invented programming.  The other two groups looked up information on Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.  One student has been assigned to draw a computer and label the parts.  Each group has also been assigned to research the basic programs that most computers offer such as desktop publishing, word processing, database, internet, and spreadsheet.  This research will describe what each program is how they operate.  Each group will present the information that they have researched.  Group presentations will begin Tuesday or Wednesday.


The month of February we will also introduce Black history people that have contributed as writers, authors, healthcare providers, and technology experts.

The English Lit class will have a quiz on vocabulary.  They will continue reading "The Cop and the Anthem."


The health class will begin to do research for their debate on the positives and negatives of marijuana.


The World History class will wrapup study on computers and begin studying the invention of the laptop.

Students in English Lit will do a character study on the short story "The Cop and the Anthem."


The health class will begin to study the health benefits of using marijuana as treatment and prescribed medication for particular illnesses.


The World History class will develop a timeline on the development of computers from the beginning of invention to current times.  This will include time, people and places.

The English Lit class will listen to portions of "The Cop and Anthem" as it will be read aloud on youtube.  Students will take notes and a class discussion will follow.

CBI Trip - to see the movie Selma in celebration of Dr. King's birthday.  Class assignment to follow.


The World History class will continue their study on computer operating systems.  We will begin exploring those individuals who first invented computers and others that have come along and improved them.

Students in health class will complete research and/or begin their debates.


The World History class will have test on the cellphone.  They will be introduced to information on the invention of the computer, laptop and tablet.

Students in English Lit will receive a study guide for their test on Thursday or Friday for "Gift of the Magi."

The Health class will continue their research on "the Legalization of Marijuana" or "the Significance of Mrs. Obama's Public School Dietary Changes."  Today the topic will be decided.

The World history class will make up a study guide for their test on the cellphone.  This activity will be facilitated by Mrs. Wright.

The English Lit class will continue to work and complete their contrast and comparison assignment on the book and movie versions of "the Gift of the Magi."  Once the assignment is completed the students will place the information on chart paper for display in the classroom.  The class will prepare for a test on Thursday or Friday on "Gift of the Magi."

The Health Class will begin to conduct research on debate topics to be determined in class today.  The debates will begin on Friday.


Students in World History will complete designing their very own cellphone.  This will be followed up with a typed up description and students will share out in the class.  Test on Friday on the cellphone.

The English Lit class will view portions of the movie "the Gift of the Magi."   Class discussion will follow.  Students will be asked to compare and contrast the book with the movie.


Students in Health class will prepare and research to do debates on one topic or the other:  Was it a good move for the first lady to implement new dietary measures for public schools or topic two:  Should marijuana be legalized.   The debate will be presented on Friday of this week or Tuesday of the week of January 19.


The World History class will continue to prepare for their presentations on Wednesday.

The English Lit class will continue reading short stories of O'Henry.  The class will have a pop quiz on "the Gift of the Magi."  They will complete the biographical chart for display on O'Henry.


Students in Health class will be assigned group projects on Influenza, Tuberculosis and Pneumonia.  They will be given the choice of doing a powerpoint or a word document and also have the use of media and they prepare these group projects for presentation.  Presentations will begin on Friday.

The World History class will continue working on projects for presentation on the cell phone.  The presentations will begin on Wednesday.

G. Wright - January 9

The students in English Lit continued to read short stories by O'Henry.  They also began working on a poster that lists interesting biographical information on O'Henry to be displayed in the classroom.


The students in health class were introduced to Bronchitis.  We viewed a six minute video on causes and treatments.  Students were asked to conduct research on bronchitis.  The assignment will be due on Monday.


Students in World History were assigned group reports on the cell phone.  Group One will report on the original cell phone, group two, the flip phone, and group three, Iphone one, three and six.  They have been encouraged to do a powerpoint, word presentation and to use as many types of media to assist with their presentations which will be due the week of January 12.

Students in English Lit were introduced to thesaurus.com.  Their assignment was to use this tool as they read through the short stories of O'Henry.  Mrs. Wright demonstrated how to use this web tool beginning with the use of the synonym and antonym lists.  The students also had to research (15) facts on O'Henry.

The Health class presented individual research on the common cold.


The World History class was asked to research (10) facts on Martin Cooper who invented the cell phone.  This assignment followed with the class viewing a video on the flip cell phone and discussing the differences between the handheld and this particular phone.

G. Wright - January 7

The English Lit class watch a biographical video on O'Henry.  The class began reading the short story "the Gift of the Magi" which was made into a movie in some recent years.

Students in Health class researched information on the common cold to include what a cold is, how one gets a cold, and recommended treatments.

The World History class continued their unit on cell phones.  Today we viewed a video on Steve Jobs and his invention of the Iphone in 2007.  Since that time the Iphone has improved on version 6 which is popular today.  Students discussed and recorded why they use a cell phone and how they feel it has revolutionized their lives.

G. Wright - January 6

Students in English Lit class were introduced to the author O'Henry.  The class began reading some interesting things about this author and what may have inspired him to write short stories and other publications.

The health class was introduced to information pertaining to the common cold.  Students were led in  a class discussion.  They also wrote down what they thought may caused the common cold and how this virus should be treated.

World History class students began a unit on technology and the effect that it has globally.  The cell phone was our first topic of discussion, and study.  Our class watched video clips on Martin Cooper who actually invented the cell phone in 1973.  The class also discussed how the cell phone has gone from a simple handheld phone to the Iphone 6 today.
