The English class will begin studying the closing sentence(s) of a paragraph.   Students will work in groups to come up with a paragraph utilizing all (3) parts of the paragraph.


Students in health class will study and analyze ways that we as individuals could possibly prevent the spread of a cold virus.


The history class will work in groups and form projects utilizing the first (10) bill of rights.  Students will be asked to research the amendment they choose and how they feel this particular amendment can be utilized to help our society.  Mrs. Wright will determine with the class when this assignment will be due.

The Healthcare class will complete reporting on different kinds of cancers.  At the conclusion, the students will place information on a body map learned from their presentations.  Study packets will be prepared for seniors and handed out on Tuesday for seniors that will have their final on Thursday.

The students in economics will research an occupation and then begin to design a household budget based upon working in that occupation.  Mrs. Wright will allow students to work with a partner as well as herself and Ms. Plato to complete the assignment.

The students in English Lit will reread the short story "the Ransom of Red Chief" in groups with Mrs. Wright and Ms. Plato facilitating.  The first assignment is that students will write their own ending to the story.  Students will chose and complete a character study using netbooks.


Students in Healthcare will begin to look at what is considered normal weight for Americans.  Each group will be asked to look up a chart with normal weight for children and adults.  The charts will include weight, height and body mass index.  Students will define what body mass index is and understand what this means and how it applies to what is considered normal weight.  Mrs. Wright will also show a video on what normal weight is supposed to be to include body mass index.  Students will be asked to make their own chart of what they feel appropriate weight is supposed to be for them as well as adults.  The class will also understand how diet and exercise help.


The fourth block class will be introduced to the topic of economics.  Students will view a video on what economics is and how basic economics affect our households.  The class will learn about budgets and money management.

The Healthcare class will begin studying charts on what is considered normal weight for children, teenagers and adults.  Students will also study the kinds of exercises that are good for individuals of all ages.  Mrs. Wright will assign each group a chart to study and put together for healthy weight.  Each group will research why it is suggested that a child, teenager or adult should weigh a certain amount based on body mass index and other indicators that are factored in.  Netbooks will be used for assignment.  Mrs. Wright will introduce assignment.   Ms. Plato and Ms. Ryan will assist with assignment.

Students in English Lit will begin reading O'Henry's next short story "the Ransom of Red Chief.  They will be required to work on vocabulary using thesarus.com to look up synonyms and antonyms.  Each student will also be required to use vocabulary to produce a written sentence for each word.   Mrs. Wright and Ms. Plato will be working with individual students on these assignments.


The Healthcare class will review their assignments on healthy eating for breakfast.  Students will begin working on their charts to include what they eat currently for lunch and to make up a menu that is healthy for the second meal of the day.  They will work on this assignment as a group and also discuss their reasons with group members.  Mrs. Wright, Ms. Plato and Ms. Ryan will facilitate assignment.

The English Lit class will watch video on "The Cop and the Anthem" by O'Henry.  Upon completion of the video students will do a contrast and comparsion chart on characters and plot of story.  Mrs. Wright will give a demonstration on how to set up the chart.  Mrs. Wright and Ms. Plato will each have (2) groups a piece to work with.  The students will design the chart as Mrs. Wright and Ms. Plato facilitate.

The students in healthcare class have completed their research on the benefits of medical marijuana (cannabis) which is used in a drug to treat diseases and the negatives of just using marijuana.  The students will type their reports and present.  Presentations will begin on Tuesday.  As students present, Mrs. Wright will check for understanding.


The World History class is working on a project involving the inventions of computers.  Mrs. Wright has assigned groups the inventors of the computer and the person that invented programming.  The other two groups looked up information on Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.  One student has been assigned to draw a computer and label the parts.  Each group has also been assigned to research the basic programs that most computers offer such as desktop publishing, word processing, database, internet, and spreadsheet.  This research will describe what each program is how they operate.  Each group will present the information that they have researched.  Group presentations will begin Tuesday or Wednesday.


The month of February we will also introduce Black history people that have contributed as writers, authors, healthcare providers, and technology experts.

The World History class was asked to research (10) facts on Martin Cooper who invented the cell phone.  This assignment followed with the class viewing a video on the flip cell phone and discussing the differences between the handheld and this particular phone.

The English Lit class watch a biographical video on O'Henry.  The class began reading the short story "the Gift of the Magi" which was made into a movie in some recent years.

Students in Health class researched information on the common cold to include what a cold is, how one gets a cold, and recommended treatments.

The World History class continued their unit on cell phones.  Today we viewed a video on Steve Jobs and his invention of the Iphone in 2007.  Since that time the Iphone has improved on version 6 which is popular today.  Students discussed and recorded why they use a cell phone and how they feel it has revolutionized their lives.

Students in English Lit class were introduced to the author O'Henry.  The class began reading some interesting things about this author and what may have inspired him to write short stories and other publications.

The health class was introduced to information pertaining to the common cold.  Students were led in  a class discussion.  They also wrote down what they thought may caused the common cold and how this virus should be treated.

World History class students began a unit on technology and the effect that it has globally.  The cell phone was our first topic of discussion, and study.  Our class watched video clips on Martin Cooper who actually invented the cell phone in 1973.  The class also discussed how the cell phone has gone from a simple handheld phone to the Iphone 6 today.
